Aliye graduated with a BA in Foreign Language Education from Bogazici University, Turkey in 2003. She spent two years teaching English as a foreign language at a high school in Turkey. In 2005, she received her MA in Teaching English as a Second Language from English Department at Iowa State University specializing in Language Assessment. During her masters program, she taught ESL writing classes at Iowa State University.

She joined the PhD program in Curriculum and Instructional Technologies in Fall 2007. She currently teaches the lab sessions of the introductory technology course, and works as a research assistant in a collaborative project entitled 'Improving Student Problem Formulation Skills Through Scaffolding'. Her major research interests are developing technology integrated instructional materials for language learning, problem based learning, and educational assessment.
