Dr. Schmidt is an Assistant Professor at the Center for Technology in Learning and Teaching in the College of Education at Iowa State University. In addition to teaching instructional technology and reading methodology courses, she coordinates the undergraduate educational computer minor program offered by the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education.

She conducts research about the use and integration of technology in teacher education and K-12 schools. Dr. Schmidt directs a number of grants that link K-12 teachers, area education agencies and university faculty and students in collaboratives that support the diffusion of technology-supported innovations in schools. A former elementary teacher, she works extensively with K-12 teachers on the integration of technology into teaching and learning.
