She earned her BA in mathematics from Pomona College, her MAT in mathematics education from Stanford University and her Ph.D. from the University of California at Santa Barbara. Dr. Thompson joined the College of Education at Iowa State University in 1981 and since that time, she has focused her work on technology applications in learning and teaching. Developing, testing, and disseminating models for using students to work one-on-one with faculty and teachers to help in the development of technology expertise, has been a major interest.
Research Interests:

Faculty/Teacher Mentoring Programs
Engineering as a Tool for Teaching Mathematics and Science
Courses:
Curr 505: The purpose of the course is to acquaint the student with current educational applications of computers in teaching. Emphasis is placed on both the "how" and "why" aspects of using computers in classrooms. Integrating computers to improve instruction and creating student centered classrooms is the central theme of the course. In the course, students are encouraged to reflect on appropriate uses of computers in learning and teaching.
