Dennis Culver visited Northwood Preschool Center in Ames on Feb. 1st and 26th to discuss robots. The students were working on a project based learning activity that focused on learning about what robots can do, how they move, how we communicate with them, and what makes a robot a robot. Dennis demonstrated several robots such as Blue-bots, Kibo, Dash, and Sphero. During the second session students had the opportunity to use the robots themselves using interactive programming tiles and iPads. While learning about robots, the students were also being introduced to fundamental computational thinking concepts such as algorithmic thinking (using directions) and decomposition (breaking a problem into smaller parts).
